This forum has been dead for a while so here's a juicy little niblet, the Warfang of Lolth!

This build is at it's heart a hips melee build, but it attempts to add a fair amount of versatility. The addition of war chanter allows it to maintain 2 bard inspirations at once, and with 8 bard levels it gets the key inspirations along with a few decent self buffs. It also relies on curse song to reduce it's enemies ability to detect it while in hips mods while simultaneously lowering the other guys ac, ab, and saves.

Potential variants:
7 bard/10 war chanter/3 rogue/10 dread fang = inspire legion
12 bard/3 rogue/10 dread fang/5 war chanter = lvl 4 spells: with this setup I would probably grab extend spell and practiced spellcaster, on a lower magic world you can get a lot of mileage out of extended haste…

Race: drow (1/2 drow as a non ecl version also is viable)

str 12
dex 19 +7 (levelups)
con 12
wis 10
int 14
cha 13

1 bard -+- weapon finnesse
2 rogue
3 bard -+- combat expertise
4 rogue
5 bard
6 rogue -+- weapon focus
7 War Chanter
8 War Chanter
9 Dread Fang -+- 2 weapon fighting
10 Dread Fang
11 Dread Fang
12 Dread Fang -+- improved 2 weapon fighting
13 Dread Fang
14 Dread Fang
15 Dread Fang -+- greater 2 weapon fighting
16 Dread Fang
17 Dread Fang
18 Dread Fang -+- song of the heart (note, if can't take soth on a dread fang lvl, gotta take bard here and dread fang at 19)
19 Bard
20 War Chanter
21 War Chanter -+- epic prowess **can ditch this feat, I need to see the full list of feats once warchanter and dread fang are released
22 War Chanter
23 War Chanter -+- expose weakness **can ditch this feat, I need to see the full list of feats once warchanter and dread fang are released
24 War Chanter
25 War Chanter -+- perfect 2 weapon fighting
26 War Chanter
27 bard -+- curse song
28 Bard
29 Bard -+- lingering song
30 Bard

skills:
hide 33
ms 33
perform 33 (need 45 modified perform to get -7 skill from curse song, so with 8 from self buffs just needs a modified CHA score of 18, so that's a +5 item)
spot 2
listen 2
rest as please.

bab 27, 12 attacks per round base, 14 hasted.

pros:

- can maintain a a +6 skill inspiration to bolster it's hide/ms *and* 1 other inspiration from this list: +3 saves, +3 regen every other round, +3 ab and damage, +4 ac, +8ab/-8ac (inspire recklessness)
- great bab for a sneaker of 27 means it can go toe to toe pretty well vs most foes even those who can detect it
- maxed out curse song
- viable standup fighter with 27 bab but with 7d6 sneak and hips + expose weakness its a pretty efficient melee combatant.

Cons:

- doesn't get hips until lvl 18
- xp pen from level 27-30 + ecl race = sadface while trying to get to lvl 30.
- mediocre hp's

Overall should be a decent and versatile character!

Is there such thing as a utility that allows you to write out a character's build from a BIC file? That would be pretty handy since you could use FRW CC or your campaign character and dump it to a flat text file for pasting into forums or whatever.

I see you have updated the list for Hammer of Moradin. One of there abilites Powerful grip gives 2 x your strength bonus when a weapon is used in two hands. As far as i know at the moment a Warhammer can only be used in one hand even though its a medium weapon. Is that part of the class even possible?

I want to play the OC/MotB with a Forest Master build and tested this character in a module:

Human; Neutral; Silvanus (Fav. Weapon: Warmace)

Str: 16 +6/ Dex: 8/ Con: 12 +2/ Int: 14/ Wis:10/ Cha: 16 +6 (bonus from FM included)

=> Ranger 1/ Favored Soul 18/ Cleric 1/ Forest Master 10

01 Ranger [1] Able L./Power Att.
02 FS [1]
03 FS [2] Alertness
04 FS [3] Str +1
05 FS [4]
06 FS [5] Toughness/ Res. Fire
07 FS [6]
08 FS [7] Cha +1
09 Cl [1] Water/War/Divine M.
10 FS [8]
11 - 20 FM Holy Warrior/ Extended and Pers. Spell; Cha +3
21 FS [9] Great Cha +1
22 FS [10] Vampiric Feast
23 FS [11] Epic Divine M.
24 - 30 FS Blind Fight/ Epic Prowess/Toughness/Gate/ Str +1/Cha +1

Is it possible to get EDM at lvl 21 without more min/maxing? I don't like characters with 8 pts in Int.

I will choose the Luck Dom. and Pract. Caster instead of War Dom. and Holy Warrior. The damage from the Holy Warrior feat is too high - much too high (compare this to bonuses from Elemental Archer max +7 or Swift Blade max +7(2d6) or Minor Shapeshift…). It should be capped at +2 or +3 since its always on. I know, this character uses EDM, but it needs 23 levels to get there.

Concerning the Forest Master:
- The requirements are a little too high for most modules and the OC. I would like to play it bit longer (from level 6 or 7 on?).
- Number of status notifications next to the portrait (>9) is confusing. Could they be combined?
- no bugs noticed

The goal of this build can be summarized in 1 word: Versatility. The The Swift War Seeker seeks to have an answer to as many different situations as possible, while still remaining a viable melee threat. In it's quest to obtain versatility, the build makes some sacrifices: it doesn't get some of the more awesome bard abilities like hymn of requiem or inspire legion, but in return it is a hardy build that can pose major problems for any given foe. In a party, this build adds so very much to his companions that his allies will never want to be without him!

Race: Drow
Alignment: non lawful

Stats:

Str 17 + 7 from levelups
Dex 13
Int 14
Con 12
Wis 8
Cha 16

Lvl up guide:

1 Bard +-+combat expertise
2 Bard
3 Bard +-+ Weapon focus
4 War chanter
5 Bard
6 War chanter +-+ Dodge
7 Bard
8 War chanter
9 Bard +-+ Curse song
10 War chanter
11 Bard
12 War chanter +-+ Mobility
13 Swiftblade
14 swiftblade
15 swiftblade +-+ Blind Fight OR medium armor prof
16 swiftblade
17 swiftblade
18 swiftblade +-+ Skill focus: perform
19 swiftblade
20 Seeker
21 Seeker +-+ extend spell
22 Seeker
23 Seeker +-+ lingering song
24 Seeker
25 Seeker +-+ song of the heart
26 Seeker
27 swiftblade +-+ practiced spellcaster: Bard
28 swiftblade
29 swiftblade +-+ Weapon prowess OR battle caster
30 Bard

BAB 26

This build has an effective inspiration and curse song level of 20, so including song of the heart thats:

Inspire courage: +5 ab/dmg
Inspire competence +7 skill bonus
Inspire defense +6 ac
Inspire regeneration +4 regen/2 rounds
Inspire toughness +4 universal saves

Any 2 of the above can be active at any 1 time

Additionally, the The Swift War Seeker gets +2 ac, saves, and 2/- dr whenever an inspiration is active, which will be 24/7. The The Swift War Seeker also gets the full suite of SB bonuses (+2 ab/ac, +2d6 dmg). Haste cast by The Swift War Seeker will last for 108 rounds, cannot be dispelled, and confers freedom and 50% concealment.

Vs a melee foe, the The Swift War Seeker can lead off with a curse song (-5 ac, -2 ab, additional malus to saves ranging from -3 to -2). With inspire defense and courage simultaneously running, the build gains a net ac bonus of +12 (+6 inspire defense, +2 seeker bonus, +2 swiftblade bonus, -2 enemy ab) which combined with concealment from haste and mirror image makes the The Swift War Seeker neigh unhittable.

Total ab bonuses:

+4 gr heroism
+2 warcry
+2 SB bonus
+5 inspiration
+5 weapon (with all the group benefits this build wins friends easily, surely one of em can cast GMW :) )

+18 total only 2 shy of the +20 cap.

An alternate strategy against a melee foe is to test their will saves. Curse song gives -3 will, follow up with a confusion spell, dominate person, ottos dance, etc. The other guy will have a fairly bad shot at making the save, assuming he/she/it isn't immune to mind spells.

Vs casters, Sirine's Grace, Greater heroism, and your cha bonus means your hymn of spelldeath has an innate dc of 55 ish. Toss a curse song and the dc is in the mid 60's (~68 or so). This is not guaranteed to win the fight, but if the enemy isn't immune to mind spells, he's basically toast.

*edited, I initially had some inspirations in there the build won't have access to*

So there are some new abilities and classes with dr. The annointed knight and warrior of darkness get 3/- dr. The new feat "armor specialization" grants 2/- dr. Divine armor grants 5/- dr for a short duration.

Do these new sources of dr stack with pre existing ones? For example, a dwarven defender gets 6/- dr at lvl 10. Barbarians get dr over the course of their progression. there is the epic damage reduction feat that grants up to 9/- dr.

Do all these stack? I know that Dwarven defender dr and epic dr feat stacks, what if you added say, annointed knight lvls and armor specialization?

This build attempts to blend sorcery and swordsmanship into one complete package. It has solid offense and defense, and enough versatility to take on pretty much anything. Generally speaking, this is a melee build, but if it runs into a foe with high end melee defense it is a capable spellcaster.

Sorcerer 6/swiftblade 10/fighter 4/eldritch knight 10

Drow

Stats:
str 17 +7 (levelups)
dex 13
con 10
int 14
wis 10
cha 16

1 fighter — LOH, dodge
2 Sorc
3 Sorc — still spell
4 sorc
5 sorc
6 sorc — mobility
7 sorc
8 SB
9 SB — extend spell
10 SB
11 SB
12 SB — blind fight
13 SB
14 SB
15 EK — maximize spell
16 EK
17 EK
18 SB — practiced spellcaster: sorcerer
19 EK
20 EK
21 EK — quicken spell
22 EK
23 SB - kd
24 EK
25 EK - automatic still spell I
26 EK
27 SB - automatic still spell II
28 Fighter - IKD
29 Fighter- automatic still spell III
30 Fighter - Epic prowess *or* armor skin

The build, as listed, is designed for at least a cha item of +3 or better to alloow it to cast lvl 9 spells. It has 25 caster levels vs dispell magic, and as such is all but immune to greater dispel and only vulnerable to a mords when it comes to dispelling. Even dispelled it has 50% concealment, haste, and freedom for 150 rounds per casting of extended haste (and as a sorcerer it has an LOT of castings of haste per day).

The saves are nothing special: the build relies on multiple spell mantles to survive vs casters. with quicken spell and least, lesser, regular and greater spell mantle it can cast a mantle in any slot from lvl 4+ and cast 12 quickened mantles per day. Superior resistance or greater resistance + 20 or more spellcraft helps to shore up the saves at least a tad. I considered a version that used paladin instead of fighter, and it would be viable that way as well.

For spells I go with mostly buffs, the only real offense needed is ray of enfeeble, bigbies forceful, and igms (tweak as necessary based on the mod/setting at hand, though). A nice spell for rolling through lowbie/effortless foes is firebrand. key buffs include (lesser) mind blank, shades, shadow shield (although that is a tough pill to swallow given the other awesome spells at that level), haste, mirror image. There are lotsa other nice buffs but hey, do whatcha like!

When in doubt a maximized ray of enfeeblement + bigbies forceful will incapacitate the enemy and from there it's gg! super damage resistant/high ac foes can be igms'd to death if need be. On the defense from an extended haste + maximized mirror image + premonition makes you basically immune to melee damage.

Skill points: just needs max concentration, 30 tumble, 20+ spellcraft, and the rest as you please (umd is always good, taunt works for the build as well).

Full plate and tower shield, it has no weapon focus so it uses whatever it finds/likes and can bust out a tower shield if need be.

bab = 27
ac is respectable thanks to swifblade bonus and access to tumble.

Overall a very fun and versatile build!

p.s. another variant would be to go dex based and replace still spell with 2 weapon fighting :)

This build is a different take on the conventional dual wield builds you see out there. Now with MotB crafting you can just add crazy ridiculous damage to weapons, but normally, dual wield builds rely on stealth and sneak attack damage to survive. From there, you typically rely on dex based skills like hide in plain sight and, due to the lack of str, you normally rely on sneak attacks to produce damage.

Sooo, here's the idea: high str, but with enough defense to simply stand in the face of an enemy and deliver the blows. You sacrifice some attacks per round, and have no stealth, and in exchange you have a high damage output character that retains solid melee defense.

Bard 7/swiftblade 10/tempest 5/fighter 8

Feats in no particular order:

dodge
mobility
spring attack
2wf
i2wf
extend
practiced bard
blind fight
weapon focus
gr focus
epic focus
prowess
luck of heroes
able learner
kd
ikd
feat of choice is left over

race: drow

stats:

str 17 +7 from levelups
dex 17
con 12
int 13
wis 8
cha 12

With those stats you just need a cha +4 item to be able to cast 1 lvl 3 spell per day and thus qualify for sb. I'm assuming this build will have access to +8 cha items, thus the 12 cha it starts with. If not, it must have a higher starting cha score. One option would be to remove kd and ikd from the build as otlined below, drop int to 10, and possibly drop con to 10. This would allow a starting cha of 16 with 1 point to spare, so the build would then only need a +4 cha item to cast 1 lvl 5 spell per day.

The ideal armor would be mithral breastplate coupled with a +3 or better dex item or even just a potion or spell of cats grace.

The build ultimately gets:

+28 bab
+11 ab from str (assuming +8 str item)
+5 from epic weapon focus and epic prowess
+2 from SB
+2 Tempest
+1 from bard inspiration
+4 from greater heroism (requires a +8 cha item with the stats here, but the build can be tweaked to have more cha if +8 cha items are not available)
+8 weapon enhancement
+1 haste (cannot be dispelled after SB level 6)
-2 dual wield malus

60 ab with a potion of aid and one of bless (available in most mods) its 62 ab. Even dispelled it's ab is still an impressive 56, because the only thing in there vulnerable to dispel is the greater heroism.

Ac (assuming MotB crafting):

+10 base
+18 total ac benefit from +8 mithral breast plate and 20+ dex
+2 swiftblade
+3 Tempest
+5 natural armor amulet
+8 deflection ac
+5 dodge boots (sun soul +5)
+3 tumble
+1 haste
+1 Luck of Heroes

=56

I debated lowering the int and taking 2 weapon defense along with greater 2wd instead of kd and ikd. also the spare feat could go to armor skin if more ac is necessary. Alternatively, with all that ab, you could take combat expertise or even take combat expertise along with the 2wd feats.

On the whole I feel that 56 ac is probably viable, though, simply because the build will have the swiftblade Haste bonuses. With 7 bard levels, practiced caster, and 10 sb levels the build enjoys 13 base caster lvls and an effective caster level of 17 so that's:
- Haste = normal duration of 51 rounds (5 minutes, 6 seconds) extended duration of 107 rounds (over 10 minutes)

Thus with 5-10 minutes of undispellable 50% concealment. Bards also get mirror image, so between mirror image and 50% concealment and 56 ac, most foes won't hit you enough in order to kill you before you kill them.

I don't have time for a damage calculation atm, but it will be impressive thanks to +11 damage from str per blow (again assuming a +8 str item).

6 attacks on the main hand, 3 offhand = 9 attacks per round plus haste (iirc haste gives 1 attack per hand per round) so that's 11 attacks per round. Not as impressive as a kaze build or most p2wf full dex builds, but most dex builds can't compete with this builds ab and can't deal as much damage per blow without sneak attacks. Thus this build fares well against foes that give dex builds problems (high spot/listen critand/or sneak immunes).

I also don't have time to work up it's skill points and progression, but able learner + bard levels = awesome skill set. at the least you can get:
concentration 33
spellcraft 15+
tumble 30
perform 1

other useful skills = UMD, taunt (to further increase your effective ab), spot and/or listen.

Main cons to the build:
- must be drow to achieve the stats I recommend = slow leveling and you incur a xp pen unless you keep bard and fighter within 1 lvl of each other.
- no real defense against spellcasters except spell resistance (no mantles, mediocre saves, no evasion).

Overall I think it's a decent 2 weapon fighting build!

curse song + bard prc question

Say I notice that a few of the various bard flavor prc's allow the bard song to progress in some way shape or form. My question is specifically about curse song.

For example, in the stormsinger description: "Bardic Music: A stormsinger's class level stacks with any levels of bard she has for purposes of determining the number of times per day she may use bardic music." This seems pretty straightforward: you get more bard songs per day, but the description says nothing about any other progression. So I'm assuming that you don't get any curse song progression out of your stormsinger levels, right?

What about War Chanter? Will WC levels cause your curse song to progress?
What about Songblade? That particular prc's description specifically states you continue to progress your bard songs *and* inspirations while levelling as a songblade, but no mention of curse song.

Thanks!

from the Tempest description, it says:

Bonus Feats: At level 3, the Tempest is granted Greater Two-Weapon Fighting.

Does this apply regardless of the characters dexterity score? And if the character lacks "improved 2 weapon fighting" which is normally a prerequisite?

Thanks!

Anyone remember first edition? Elves could be multi-class Fighter/Thief/Mage.

With Kaedrin's pack and some of the new PrCs i see some possibilities for a real jack of all trades. Eg: Nightsong Enforcer is a full BAB class with thief features. Im not saying that its possible to get level 9 divine and mage spells, plus be an awesome thief and fighter, but someone who can be pretty good all round.

Im thinking of something like a Wizard/Arcane Trickster/Rogue/Nightsong Enforcer may do the trick.

Anyone got any suggestions?
